AWIP’s FL40 Insulated Panels Featured in Architectural Digest

AWIP’s FL40 Insulated Panels Featured in Architectural Digest

The sleek modern façade of the FL40 – FL for “flat” – insulated metal wall panels from All Weather Insulated Panels are featured in Architectural Digest’s article about the new, stylish Ashes & Diamonds Winery in Napa, which opened in early November 2017 to widespread praise for its stunning visual appearance.

Entitled “Discover Napa’s Most Design-Forward, Cutting-Edge New Winery,” the AD article gives insight into the choices made by owner Kashy Khaledi and what he wanted in his winery. To house the production building, FL40 wall insulated metal panels from AWIP are used on a building that, according to the article, is on “a complex that feels somewhere between a Silicon Valley corporate campus and LACMA.”

Of note to the article are the “porthole-style” windows on the winery’s production building. Author Gemma Z. Price called out this feature specifically:

The most striking features of the taller production building… are the circular windows set into the cobra-head-shaped first floor, which extends out over an enclosed VIP-tasting-cum-events room and a ground floor breezeway.

Bill Lowery, president of AWIP, notes that architects, contractors and project managers should always keep in mind that design features such as porthole windows and curved walls are possible with IMPs. It’s one of the things passed on to Khaledi and lead architect Barbara Bestor by Steve Kilgannon, owner of the Facility Development Company (FDC) which built Ashes & Diamonds.

“We’re long-time clients of All Weather,” said Kilgannon, “and basically I introduced Kashy and Barbara to the FL40 panel and showed them examples of the product. I talked about the energy efficiency, the panel systems themselves, and their appearance.”

AWIP can take credit for supplying insulated wall and roof panels to more than 100 wineries, as well as to a wide variety of administration, maintenance, cold storage and commercial buildings in North America.

“It’s a new era in building in North America,” said Lowery. “Insulated metal wall panels provide so much to the building owner in savings of construction time, the cost of materials and long-term energy efficiency. They meet every environmental and design need.”

Kilgannon said AWIP panels are scheduled for other FDC wine country projects, including Russian River Brewery in Windsor. Another FDC project in conjunction with AWIP was Venge Vineyards in Calistoga, which was featured on the cover of Green Building & Design’s May-June cover.
